Akon & 50 Cent Join VMA Lineup, Amy Winehouse Calls Out Sick

British soul sensation Amy Winehouse has dropped off the MTV Video Music Award lineup, while 50 Cent and Akon have stepped up to fill the void.

Since she'd already cancelled plans for a North American tour this month, it should come as little surprise that Amy Winehouse has also bowed out of performing for the 2007 MTV Music Video Awards.

Earlier this week Universal Republic Records announced that all of the singer's US appearances have been cancelled as a part of a "continued effort to support Winehouse's well-being."

Winehouse's Back to Black album has won over listeners across the world, but since its release, the singer has cancelled numerous public appearances after suffering health and personal issues.

Fortunately for MTV, platinum artists like 50 Cent, Akon, as well as 17-year-old newcomer Soulja Boy ("Crank Dat") are on board to fill in her stead. The three new contributors will join previously announced performers Kanye West, Rihanna, Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Chris Brown, Mark Ronson, T-Pain, Cee-Lo, Common and Gym Class Heroes who will serve up serious entertainment for MTV's 24th Annual Video Music Awards.

MTV has also announced several presenters for the special event, including The Kingdom stars Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner, Transformers actors Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, the cast of HBO's "Entourage," Rosario Dawson, Pamela Anderson, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, Alicia Keys and Eve.

Tune in to watch the all-star event on MTV September 9 when the Video Music Awards are broadcast live at 9 p.m. EST from Las Vegas Palms Casino Resort.
